My name is Pablo Espejo-Saavedra and I am currently a first semester sophomore from Baltimore, Maryland. I attended public schools in Baltimore since kindergarten and have seen many things that need to change within Baltimore which inspired me to want to be able to come back and help in some way when I graduate from college. As a communications major taking the public relations track it is important for me to be able to use and understand the way the media works and is evolving. By being a part of the Self, Media, and Society scholars program, I am looking to be able to learn about the different ways the media is used and find ways that this could possibly be applied to my field. Throughout my year and a half in this program, we have explored the many ways that the media is manipulated and used for promotion and the spread of news and also questioned the validity of this news in certain situations. As someone trying to go into the field of PR, it is important for me to stay updated on current events and to be able to correctly evaluate the credibility of the source. That is what I am seeking to achieve throughout my time in this program.
